Pianoscópio

The Pianoscópio is a performance installation by the Companhia de Música Teatral and marked one of my first encounters with the creative universe of this collective.

Like many of CMT's projects, Pianoscópio is difficult to fit into a single definition. It is simultaneously an installation, a performance, a workshop and an instrument. An obvious example of what CMT considers to be "artistic-educational constellations".

My first contact with this work happened while I was a student of musical performance, and it ended up profoundly transforming my relationship with timbre, textures and the very physicality of making music. It was also one of the seeds that led me (as you can see in other sections of this website) to develop my own musical instruments.

Being a travelling installation, Pianoscópio is constantly being renewed. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to recover some of its parts, including electronic components, and to closely follow its evolution. My most recent connection to the project was during the recording of an album (below), which reveals particularly clearly the enormous expressive potential of this unique creation.
